Effective December 11, 2023, Dr. Beth Spencer is appointed Director of Undergraduate Curricular Initiatives (UCI) in the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). In this new leadership position, Beth will report to Roberta Berry, Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and will be a member of the Undergraduate Curriculum team in OUE. With Beth’s addition, the Undergraduate Curriculum team will include leadership and staff supporting the full range of curricular policy matters and initiatives that fall within the purview of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.

 Beth’s educational preparation includes a Ph.D. in History from Georgia State University, a M.Ed. in Adult Education from the University of Georgia, and a M.A. in Modern Social History from the University of Lancaster (UK). Beth began her career at Georgia Tech as the Program Coordinator for the Graduate program in BME and, later, assumed the role of Senior Assistant Director of the Center for Academic Success. After continuing her career as Director of the Center for Academic Success at University of West Georgia, she returned to Georgia Tech in 2016, first, as the Academic Advising Manager and then Director of Undergraduate Advising and, most recently, as Director of Undergraduate Advising & Transition (UAT) within Academic Success and Advising (ASA). In her leadership roles in advising, Beth has advanced the infrastructure of central support for advising and the profile of advising across the Institute, including by chairing the Provost’s Advising Task Force and leading the advising community through the transition to a new advising platform. 

 As Director of UCI, Beth will lead and contribute to initiatives in general education, the Georgia Legislative Requirements (GLRs), undergraduate academic policies, undergraduate minors and certificates, dual enrollment, program maps, the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), and SACSCOC reaffirmation of accreditation. She will also work on initiatives around course planning, including for summer terms, and incorporating curricular analytics and other metrics into our partnerships with advisors and faculty. In connection with these responsibilities, Beth will serve on committees and liaise and collaborate with Georgia Tech and USG academic leadership, faculty, and administrative partners and stakeholders. She will also continue her responsibilities as Georgia Tech’s Learning Support Coordinator and teach one section of GT1000/2000/2100 each year.
