The Briaerean Honor Society (BHS), the oldest honor society on Georgia Tech’s campus, is an organization dedicated to recognizing co-op and internship students who possess an exemplary scholastic record. As stated on its website, the society strives “to create a community and a resource for those students who have pursued professional and academic excellence at Georgia Tech.” BHS members have the opportunity to be recognized for their efforts, meet like-minded students and BHS alumni, and engage directly with employers through BHS events and projects.
“Through BHS I got the interview opportunity for what is now my full-time job,” says recent graduate and former BHS President, Jonathan Britt. “I viewed BHS as a great opportunity to gain career advice and networking chances .... However, BHS ended up being more than that for me.”
Britt emphasizes the value of student connections made through the organization as well.
"In BHS, you will engage with a variety of majors who have worked in all different areas. These fellow students could give you advice about a company you may be thinking about, or even a recommendation to their managers."
BHS alumni are also active participants at campus events like career fairs, offering their advice and mentorship.
For students looking for leadership experience, the BHS could be the perfect way to build this part of your resume as well. "There is no shortage of leadership opportunities in BHS,” says Britt, “which is a fantastic way to develop soft skills related to leadership.”
