Tranformational Learning Fellows 2024 Cohort

Transformative Learning Initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) is proud to spotlight our AY 23-24 Transformative Learning Staff Fellows: Criss Miller, Katherine Lawlor, Monica Jackson, and Yan Liang. Each fellow took on a professional development project to simultaneously advance their careers and help our high-priority student populations.

Criss Miller, Senior Program Manager / Assistant to the VPUE, organized and hosted a seminar: The Basics of Credit: An Educational Event on Financial Literacy. During the 90-minute presentation and discussion, almost 50 students learned about building credit, how credit is evaluated, student loans, saving, and budgeting basics.

Katherine Lawlor, Program and Operations Manager for First-Generation Student Initiatives, is working diligently to expand the seminar into a longer-term program that teaches financial literacy to first-generation students.

Monica Jackson, Employer Connections Coordinator, completed the Cornell Women in Leadership Certificate. This training helped her become more intentional about her leadership through self-reflection and helped her develop social-related and self-related competencies. Furthermore, Monica won the Embracing All Voices Award for career services work, and she directly attributes what she learned in the training to prepare her to win this award.

Yan Liang, Pre-Health Outreach and Engagement Specialist, completed the Kolb Experiential Learning Profile Certification Program. This valuable training taught Yan how to help students extrapolate value from their experiential learning. Yan is proliferating what she learned by facilitating a training session for her Pre-Graduate and Pre-Professional (PGPP) colleagues and by hosting a workshop for PGPP students.

This Fellowship program is offered through Undergraduate Transformative Learning Initiatives, led by Director Dr. Joy Harris. The Transformative Learning Fellowship goals are to:

  1. Support each OUE Staff Fellow in successfully implementing a transformative project for undergraduates
  2. Support high-priority student populations
  3. Provide each Staff Fellow with an equitable career growth opportunity

Applications will open soon to select the next cohort of Transformative Learning Fellows in OUE.
