Celebrate Georgia Tech’s transfer student community October 16 – 20, 2023, during National Transfer Student Week! National Transfer Student Week was started by the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) to recognize and build solidarity for transfer students on campuses around the country. This year, Georgia Tech welcomed 1,440 transfer students, making up 27% of the new degree-seeking class. As Tech’s transfer student population grows, the Office of Undergraduate Education continues to expand programming specific to enhancing the transfer experience and supporting student success.
This year, OUE will be hosting a full week of events tying into this year’s National Transfer Week theme, “Full Steam Ahead!” According to NISTS, these activities contribute to the goals to “clear the path to transfer success by removing barriers and obstacles” and “to add fuel to students’ journeys by connecting them to tools and supports and empowering them to proceed at their own pace." Whether it’s considering a major change, navigating Georgia Tech, addressing student concerns, exploring research, or pursuing career development, OUE has something to offer.
The week’s celebration begins with a Transfer Pizza Pop-In event sponsored by the GT 2000 Transfer Student Seminar program. Transfer students can share some lunch, meet other transfers, and connect with campus resources and personnel that support their unique needs. The week continues with a major change workshop with Exploratory Advising and an academic road mapping session with OUE’s Retention & Completion Initiatives. This is followed by a screening of the documentary Hungry to Learn, which focuses on food insecurity in college and universities, the people who are affected, and developing programs to address the cause. The week concludes with in-person and virtual workshops exploring research opportunities with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, career exploration with Exploratory Advising and the Career Center, and a webinar on undergraduate co-ops and internship programs.
