It is with mixed emotions that we let you know that James Barricelli, Executive Director of the Career Center, has informed us of his intent to accept a new position as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Career Development & Executive Director of University Career Services at UNC Chapel-Hill. His last day with us at Georgia Tech will tentatively be September 22.
James first joined Georgia Tech in fall 2018 as the Director of Employer Relations in the former Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2). In 2020, following the launching of the rebranded Career Center and a national search, James was appointed as the inaugural Executive Director. In his nearly five years at GT, James has led a significant transformation of our Career Center, including developing a 3-year strategic plan; implementing our undergraduate career education model with IAC, COS, and COD; establishing a career coaching network and career peer advising program; and collaborating with campus partners to launch several new initiatives such as the Career Alliance, Xperience Start-up Fund, and a First-Generation Shadow Program. James has also been a valuable and active member of the leadership of Undergraduate Education (OUE) and more recently, Graduate and Professional Education (GPE).
We look forward to formally celebrating James’ many accomplishments, and we plan to host a campus reception before his departure. Please be on the lookout for an invitation with details. We will also keep you informed as we determine next steps during this leadership transition. In the meantime, please join us in congratulating James in this exciting next step in his career.
